THREE vacancies on Alva Community Council (ACC)

There are currently THREE vacancies on Alva Community Council (ACC),  and applications from willing volunteers are invited from Alva residents.

The Community Council meets on the second Monday of each month during September to June at 7.30 pm in the hall at the rear of Alva Baptist Church.  However, in due course ACC will be moving to the community meeting space in Alva Community Access Point (CAP) when it relocates to Alva Primary School.

Current planning applications, local issues, town maintenance, etc, are discussed, so that the views of the Alva Community can be properly represented to Clackmannanshire Council and other public bodies.
There are also various sub-groups including the Events Group who organise the annual Fun Day and Christmas Fayre.

This is an opportunity for public spirited individuals to step forward and help to make a difference.

Selection Process

The decision on filling these vacancies will be made at the Community Council meeting on Mon 10 Sept 2018 which the public are welcome to attend as observers.

If the number of volunteer applications does not exceed the three vacancies all will be co-opted on to the Community Council provided Eligibility Criteria is met, this is explained on the guidance notes. 

In the event that there are more eligible applications than vacancies an open vote will be taken by current elected Community Councillors.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL CASUAL VACANCIES – GUIDANCE TO APPLICANTS

Application Form

To apply for a vacancy on Alva Community Council, you are required to lodge the enclosed Application Form with the Secretary of the Community Council by the date and time shown at the foot of the form.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible you must:-

  • Be at least 16 years of age;
  • Appear on the electoral roll;

If you are aged between 16 and 18, you need to have your details added to the 16 – 18 year olds electoral roll, please contact the Election Office, telephone 01259 452112 for information or check on the website: www.clacksweb.org.uk/community councils.

  • Be resident in the Alva Community Council area.
  • Not be subject to any legal incapacity (further details available on request).

You can check that you are on the electoral roll by contacting Governance Services, Kilncraigs, Alloa, Tel. 01259 452266 or email: elections@clacks.gov.uk.

Note: Council employees who intend to submit an application form: If you are an employee of Clackmannanshire Council, you will be eligible, providing you have not been refused permission or had permission withdrawn.

Personal Statements:

Applicants are invited to consider submitting a Personal Statement in support of their application. These will be made available to the members of the Community Council to help them make informed choices if the number of applicants exceeds the number of vacancies.

For Example, you could explain in your statement why you want to join the Community Council, what skills and experience you have or what your main interests are.

Note: You do not have to provide a personal statement if you do not want to. Please note however that personal statements cannot be submitted after the closing date for applications.

The Community Council is entitled to refuse to consider any personal statement that is:-

  • In excess of 250 words.
  • Considered at its sole discretion to be illegible or contain material that is defamatory, obscene or unlawfully discriminatory.

CUSTOMERS ACROSS SCOTLAND ASKED TO USE WATER WISELY

Scottish Water is asking customers to use water wisely in their daily activities to help maintain supplies during the current period of hot summer weather.

Following a sustained dry period without any significant rainfall, customer usage has increased significantly. With the current weather conditions forecast to continue, Scottish Water is encouraging people to take simple but important steps to conserve our public water supplies.

In some areas there has been a 30% increase in demand for water during the summer so far and an additional 140 million litres are currently being produced and pushed through the system every day to meet current customer usage.

Scottish Water has been monitoring the situation closely and managing supplies across the country, including deploying additional resources to move water between distribution areas and tankering water to supplement local networks.

Some water treatment works and distribution networks are working at near capacity to meet demand.

Average reservoir levels are generally normal for this time of year but the current level of usage and continuing dry weather means stocks of stored water available for use are reducing.

Customers are being asked to reduce usage wherever possible. Businesses are also being asked to consider their usage and how they can use water more efficiently. Simple, practical steps which we encourage include:

  • Taking shorter showers
  • Using a watering can rather than a hose to water plants
  • Using a bucket rather than a hose to wash vehicles; only washing windscreens/lights instead of the whole vehicle
  • Turning off taps in the home whenever possible
  • Using washing machines and dishwashers fully loaded

Peter Farrer, Scottish Water’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “Water usage levels during the current hot summer weather, particularly during peak times such as morning and early evening, mean we are working around the clock to get water around the system quickly enough.

“Scotland’s public water supply is the lifeblood of the country, for household and business customers. We usually supply more than 1.3 billion litres a day to customers.

“We have a strong and resilient distribution network to keep our customers supplied but we’re asking everyone to play their part in helping us as Scotland enjoys its hottest and driest summer in many years.

“By encouraging simple but important changes to how people use water over the coming days and weeks of dry, warm weather, this will make a big difference to the flow of water around the network and protect supplies.”

ENVIRONMENT SECRETARY ECHOES SCOTTISH WATER CALL

Environment Secretary Roseanna Cunningham said: “Much of Scotland has been enjoying a period of warm and dry weather and, with this forecast to continue, now is a good time for all of us to take action where we can to ensure that we maintain the network’s stocks of water.

“Scottish Water is managing current levels of water usage closely, and I encourage people everywhere, whether using water at home, or in their business, to work with Scottish Water and follow their helpful advice and suggestions to use water wisely. This will allow the network to operate as normal, supporting all our water needs everywhere.”

Alva CAP Relocation Drop-in Sessions

As you may be aware Alva Community Access Point (Library) is being relocated to Alva Primary School  Work is scheduled to start early July.
There are 2 drop-in sessions at the school on Monday 25 June at 3 to 4pm then 5 to 7pm so pop along if you are interested to see what the new CAP will look like.

Grants for Remembrance Day Installations – Taking Part

Applications are now open for micro-grants of up to £500 for installations to support their Remembrance Day activities for the centenary of the First World War.

This programme will allow communities to remember and commemorate by accessing our silhouettes for benches and chairs free of charge thanks to the support of the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust.

These silhouettes can be placed within community halls, places of worship and places of education, bringing to mind those who went to war and did not return. You can apply for an award to purchase up to 10 silhouettes.

As part of the award, your organisation will need to hold a self-funded event to bring your local community together.

Applications are open until the 30th June 2018.

Who can apply for an award?

Your organisation will need to be one of the following:

* A charity
* A Community Interest Company (CIC)
* A school
* A place of worship
* An Armed Forces base
* A chapel or other place of worship, or multi-faith facility within a hospital or Armed Forces base, where people would not otherwise be able to engage in remembrance and engagement activity without financial resources
* A community organisation with a constitution and a community space (Including Parish Councils)
