A major concern for some people in Alva is the land that used to be part of Johnstone Park, was used for the building of the old Alva Academy and is now part of the Ochil Leisure Centre. Since the centre is now closed the council intend to sell off the land. There is a general feeling amongst some members of our community that this land should be returned to the people of Alva for the common good, and that the council should not be selling it.
So we thought we would share with the community what has happened so far in our attempts to get clarification on this issue and ascertain if the council have the right to sell the land.
In September 2015 we write the following letter to Elaine McPherson at Clackmannanshire Council.
On October 14th the council’s legal services team leader Andrew Wyse replied.
Not satisfied with the reply, and having discussed the letter at our meetings we held an extra ordinary meeting of community counsellors on 28/01/2016. Here are the minutes.
