Late Night Shopping

Alva Community Council hosted a successful Christmas Community and Late Night Shopping Event in the town on December 5th. Alva Primary School Carol Singers started proceedings on the steps of the Cochrane Hall.  High winds on the morning of the event unfortunately damaged the tree lights so the countdown to switch-on couldn’t happen but this didn’t detract too much from the evening. Many members of the public turned out and, after listening to the carol singers, went up to Ochil Leisure Centre (OLC) to watch a display from the Katie Arthur School of Dance. Santa made an appearance and greeted people as they walked from OLC down to the main street to take advantage of the late night opening of shops including Hair Care, Nichols Opticians, Higglety Pigglety, Highland Cheesecake Shop, Belle Box and Woman4Woman. Passing motorists got into the spirit of the evening by tooting their horns at Santa and his three Elves as they went from shop to shop in the shadow of the new Christmas lights on lampposts. The carol singers concluded events by entertaining residents of Burnside Court by singing on the bridge outside their development. ACC wish to thank everyone who helped make the evening a success.  ACC’s next community event, a Family Fun Day, is scheduled for 24 May 2014. Keep up to date with ACC at www.alvacommunitycouncil.org.uk  or see minutes in the public file at Alva Library.
