Last night, on a night when the outside temperature was plummeting towards Zero, we had 71 people come along for the last Prize Bingo of 2021. Hot mince pies, tea, coffee and biscuits all helped to warm the atmosphere in the Hall, especially the winners of the prizes including the Festive Hamper and the bottles of Chivas Regal and Dimple, all of which were generously donated.
All of this meant that a record sum of Β£642 was collected on the night and this certainly raised the spirits of the Committee members in attendance. Well done to all concerned.
Best Wishes to all for Christmas and the New Year. The next Bingo evening will be on Wednesday 26th January in perfect time for some Burns themed treats. β at Cochrane Hall Alva

Walk This Way β New Recycling Scheme for NHS Walking Aids Proves a Hit
Thanks to the innovative skills of two specialist NHS Forth Valley physiotherapists, 846 walking aids have been returned to NHS Forth Valley in the past 7 months representing a saving of more than Β£6,500 against the cost of buying replacements.
The walking aid recycling scheme, which was set up initially in Falkirk, has been so successful it is now being rolled out to the Stirling area and there are also plans to extend it to Clackmannanshire.

Alva West Development Update
New documents have been added recently to the Alva West Development Proposal, (Planning Application reference: 21/00144/FULL) the most interesting one is from SEPA dated 2nd November 2021 in which it states they still object in principle to it and give their reasons why. You can download and view the SEPA response below.
Parks Litter Pick
Despite the rain yesterday, a good turn out from around 20 members of the community gathered in the park to carry out a litter pick around the parks. The group included a good number from the Alva Beavers and members of Alva Community Resilience Team.
The main area to clear was around the War Memorial in the Johnstone Park ahead of Remembrance Sunday next week, but we also cleared all other areas of the parks, in the end filling many bags with a lot of spent rockets from the previous night as well as empty bottles and cans.
We are looking to establish a Friends of the Parks group so that we might be able to repeat this exercise on a more regular basis, and maybe even look at other ideas of how we can keep the parks a great place to visit.
Thanks to everyone who took part and a special mention to Graham Gilmour of ACC and AGHT for his additional work in co-ordinating this day. Pictures taken by ACC and AGHT member Bryan Denny with permission from those in the pictures to use them.
