sickinbedWe have received the following information regarding the Annual Review of NHS Forth Valley. The invitation to attend is open to the public, but if you wish to attend then please let them know ASAP as the deadline is 28th November. Here are the details.

Invitation to the Annual Review of

NHS Forth Valley on Monday 9th December 2013

The Annual Review of our performance during 2012/13 will take place on Monday 9th December 2013 in the Lecture Theatre at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert from 1.15pm to 2:30pm. Everyone is welcome and we would be delighted if you could make it along as we are keen to encourage as many local people, patient representatives, community groups and local organisations from across Forth Valley to attend.

The format of this year’s Review has changed to make it shorter and more focussed on our key performance, challenges and achievements during the period as well as a forward look.  These areas will be highlighted in two short presentations by NHS Forth Valley’s Chairman, Alex Linkston and Alex Neil, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing followed by a Q&A session where the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions (please note that it will not be possible to answer questions on patient-specific issues).

If you would like to attend it would helpful if you could let us know by 28th November 2013 and advise us of any special requirements. We would also appreciate it if you could share this information with any colleagues, friends or family members who may be interested in attending.

Herald Society Awards

Herald Society AwardAt the Herald Society Awards on Wednesday November 20th 2013 Ochil Leisure Centre won the “Campaigners of the Year” award for saving Alva Pool. The volunteers also received a commendation in the “Unsung Heroes” award category. Some of us on the Community Council have had some involvement with OLE, or have family members who have been tirelessly involved from the start. We are delighted to offer them our congratulations and our heart felt thanks for providing Alva, and the wider hillfoot’s community with this out-standing resource, and wish OLE all the very best for the future, and much success in taking the centre forward.

More information on the awards can be found at the awards website, and should be reported in The Herald on Friday 22nd November 2013.

Alva in the 1940s

alva-35Gary D’Arcy of Rhymemaker Productions found some old footage of Alva from the 1940s. He has uploaded them to youtube and kindly agreed to let us post them here. Gary tells me he is trying to find out who made the footage. If he finds out we’ll let you know. Perhaps you may know yourself? Email info@alvacommunitycouncil.org.uk, or head over to our facebook page and post a comment if you think you can help trace the film maker, or can provide information on some of the people in the videos. Enjoy.

Alva Academy Prize Giving

awardMary Dalrymple, Secretary of Alva Community Council, attended the Alva Academy Annual Prize giving event on Thursday 27th June 2013 and was highly delighted to watch Gemma Waghorn being presented with the Ruby Morrison Memorial Prize for the most outstanding pupil, as well as gaining a merit award for an educational subject. This is a very special announcement as Gemma is the youngest member of the Alva Community Council who sponsors this prize on annual basis. Congratulations all round to her and the other pupils of Alva Academy. An enjoyable night by all.
