Ochil leisure is closed and slated for demolition. It is Clackmannanshire Council’s intention to sell the land for redevelopment, probably housing.
There have been misgivings in the community regarding this. Some people believe that the land was given to the people of Alva by the Johnstone family, and that the council have no right to sell the land, but that it should be used for community benefit. The position of the council’s legal department is that they do have a right to sell.
This is where we ask for the community’s help. We are looking for people in the community who know of the existence of any documentation, be it maps, title deeds, old letters, or whatever, that would support the position that this land belongs to the community and should not be sold. If you can help then please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
But after all, who owns the land anyway?
